Morgan Joanel Makes Remarkable Return With “Undone”

Against all odds, Morgan Joanel is back making music and sounding better than ever. The recent release of “Undone” marks an exciting new chapter for the Western Australian powerhouse.

Longtime readers might remember me raving about Morgan’s music back in 2020. While she seemed to disappear from view, she was actually rehabilitating after a devastating car accident in 2021. She was lucky to survive the impact when the Uber she was travelling in was hit by another car at 144 km/h. It left her confined to a wheelchair, with a bleed on the brain and 13 broken bones. She was told that she may never walk again, and certainly wouldn’t perform on stage. But Morgan wouldn’t take no for an answer.

“Undone” is the perfect comeback song, rebellious and raw.

“’Undone’ is about the masks we wear, the dance between seduction and threat,” Morgan explained. “The first time I ever played it was on stage was opening for Anne-Marie, so it had a big bang of a first performance! Of all my songs, ‘Undone’ has had the longest road from writing it to a recorded release. But I think that’s the point. I wasn’t ready to release it until I could stand inside it properly and from a place of power. Now I can.”

The release of “Undone” coincides with Morgan’s shows around the country supporting British superstar Newton Faulkner. Now halfway through the tour, I hear that she’s killing it. But don’t just take my word for it. If you’re attending one of the remaining shows, make sure you arrive early enough for Morgan’s set:

21 April 2026 – Rosemount Hotel, Boorloo/Perth
22 April 2026 – Jive Bar, Tarntanya/Adelaide
24 April 2026 – The Northern, Cavanbah/Byron Bay
25 April 2026 – The Brightside, Meeanjin/Brisbane
26 April 2026 – Vinnie’s Dive Bar, Yugambeh Country/Gold Coast

Morgan Joanel Releases Cool New Single, “Disappear”

Perth singer-songwriter Morgan Joanel has given me goosebumps with her sultry new single “Disappear.” This track is a masterclass in restraint, with smoky vocals and a cool groove. I can’t help thinking of cool ‘90s outfits like Portishead and Mazzy Star when I listen to it.

Morgan’s far from a household name, but she’s working in the business for the last decade. It’s a labour of love that’s taken her around the world and seen her signed to one of the world’s biggest record labels. Like so many musical journeys, it hasn’t been a fairytale ride though. Morgan recently moved back to her hometown of Perth and it seems the change is doing her good. While her time with a major label left her feeling creatively confined, she wrote “Disappear” in just 15 minutes. Hopefully that’s a sign her creative juices are flowing again.

Morgan Joanel Fashion at Zara Stores

Fashion and music has always enjoyed a special relationship. Our favourite artists wear the best threads, many score the runway shows of leading designers, and some musicians even create their own collections. And if you’re Sydney singer-songwriter Morgan Joanel, you find your face on a T-shirt.

When she’s not creating music, Morgan maintains her fashion blog Mojomade. The T-shirt’s candid image is actually from one of the very first posts on that very blog. It was snapped on a humble Canon camera, yet now it graces a tee from designer store Zara. This isn’t just an Australian exclusive either; the T-shirts are available at Zara stores all over the world. Fashion fans across the globe might not know who Morgan is or what she does, but they’ll be wearing her face!

Global awareness may come yet though, as Morgan’s been busy in the studio. She’s also got a song writing trip to Los Angeles and New York in the works. But before all that she’ll play a few shows around her hometown to promote her current single “Devil’s in the Details.” Sydneysiders, you can catch this hot new talent at the following venues.

24 March 2012 – The Vanguard, Newtown (with Butterfly Boucher)
1 April 2012 – The Vault, Windsor (with Eilen Jewell)
24 April 2012 – Brass Monkey, Cronulla (with Blind River Running)
9 May 2012 – Notes, Newtown (with Tim Chaisson)
18 May 2012 – The Beresford, Surry Hills
