Bliss N Eso Top ARIA Albums Chart

Many acts have tried, but local hip hop act Bliss N Eso have ended Eminem’s six-week reign at the top of the ARIA Albums Charts. The band’s fourth studio album Running on Air is their first to achieve the top spot. Congrats to them!

It’s been a great week for Aussie albums. Washington is enjoying her first top 10 record, with I Believe You Liar taking out the third possie. She’s just ahead of Birds of Tokyo, who have fallen two positions to sit at number 4 with their self-titled album. Kylie Minogue has also dropped this week. Her album Aphrodite now sits at number 7, down three places. Rounding out the top 10 is Angus & Julia Stone with their unstoppable sophomore effort Down the Way.

Eminem has retained the top spot on the singles chart though. “Love the Way You Lie,” featuring Barbados beauty Rihanna has now held the top spot for four weeks. A few Aussie acts including Michael Paynter, Birds of Tokyo, and Yolanda Be Cool & Dcup are hovering in the top 30 though, so hopefully it won’t be too long before we see some local talent in the top 10.

John Butler Trio Take ARIA Album Top Spot

The brand new week sees another Aussie act sitting on top of the ARIA album charts. John Butler Trio have ended the reign of Angus & Julie Stone with the release of their new album April Uprising.

Angus & Julie Stone haven’t slipped too far though. Their latest album Down the Way is in third position, just below Lady Gaga’s The Fame Monster.

It’s disappointing to see that there’s still no local talent in the top 10 singles charts though. With Gabriella Cilmi’s single “On a Mission” slipping three places to 19th spot this week, that’s not likely to change any time soon!

Angus & Julia Stone Debut at Number One

Angus & Julia Stone have debuted at number one on the ARIA charts with their sophomore effort Down The Way. The local brother sister act was no match for last week’s number ones Gorillaz, now sitting at number three, or international touring sensation Lady Gaga, who occupies the number two spot.

It’s great to see Angus & Julia Stone outselling the rest of the pack considering the lack of local talent in the current ARIA charts.

Australia also has a new number one single, with Train moving up one position with “Hey, Soul Sister.” They may not be Aussies, but as a long time fan I’m thrilled to see these boys sitting at the top of our charts once again!

Vanessa Amorosi Tops Again

Well done Vanessa Amorosi! She’s managed to retain the top spot on the Australian singles charts with “This Is Who I Am,” despite some fierce competition from the Black Eyed Peas.

Meanwhile, Guy Sebastian is also creeping up the charts again with “Like It Like That.” The feel-good single is up one position this week, sitting at number four. With the full-length CD of the same name now in record stores, expect to see Guy make a big impression on the albums charts next week. Is it too soon to predict a number one?

He’ll have to work hard to push Michael Buble off though. The smooth Canadian is still sitting pretty at the top of the albums charts with Crazy Love.

Vanessa Amorosi on Top of Singles Charts

Vanessa Amorosi has made a big splash on the ARIA charts this week, with her new single “This Is Who I Am” taking the top spot on debut. Amazingly, this is Vanessa’s first number one single!

She’s keeping company with Guy Sebastian, who is still sticking around the top ten with “Like It Like That.” It sits at number five this weeks after a massive 10 weeks hovering around the upper end of the charts.

With Michael Buble’s newie Crazy Love sitting at the top of the album charts, Kate Miller-Heidke’s been left to fly the Australian flag at number eight. Curiouser is up two positions from last week. Could Miss Miller-Heidke be clawing her way back up to the top spot? I hope so!

Jimmy Barnes and Guy Sebastian Hold Steady on Aussie Charts

It’s another week on top of the charts for locals Jimmy Barnes and Guy Sebastian. Jimmy held steady at the top of the albums charts with The Rhythm and The Blues, despite strong competition from fellow Aussie Kate Miller-Heidke. Her album Curiouser is up three positions this week, and breathing down Jimmy’s neck at number two.

Also making his presence felt is John Farnham at number six. His national tour no doubt has something to do with his greatest hits compilation The Essential 3.0 climbing five spots.

Not a lot has changed in the singles charts. Guy Sebastian’s still at number one with “Like It Like That.” Kate’s still at number three with “The Last Day on Earth.”

If only we had a few more Aussies to keep them company! Jess Mauboy did jump a whopping 11 spots to land at number 11 this week, so I’m predicting her newie “Up/Down” will crack the top 10 next time around.

Jimmy Barnes and Guy Sebastian on Top of ARIA Charts

It’s a rare week in Australia, with Aussies taking the top spots on both the albums and singles ARIA charts.

Rock veteran Jimmy Barnes earned his ninth solo number one album this week with The Rhythm and the Blues. That surpasses John Farnham’s eight solo number ones, making Barnesy our most successful solo male artist. But was there ever any doubt this album would be a hit? It doesn’t take a genius to work out that an album of old school rock and roll covers released just before Father’s Day is going to sell by the truckload. The real test for this CD will be how it does next week, and the week after.

Keeping Jimmy company on the albums charts we’ve got Kate Miller-Heidke’s Curiouser sitting at number five, up one possie from the week before. They’ve slipped three places, but Jet are still hanging in there with Shaka Rock. Their third album sits at number eight.

Meanwhile Guy Sebastian is sitting at the top of the singles charts with his infectious single “Like It Like That.” It’s taken Guy four weeks to achieve the position. It’s somewhat of a return to form for Guy, who hasn’t released a number one single since 2004’s “Out With My Baby.”

Kate Miller-Heidke’s making her presence felt on the singles charts too with “The last Day on Earth” inching ever closer to the top spot. It’s sitting at number three this week, one better than the week before.

Short Stack Debut at Number One

Many have challenged the late great Michael Jackson, but it’s taken a bunch of Central Coast teens to bring his reign on the charts to an end. Short Stack have knocked Jacko off the ARIA charts top spot this week with their debut album Stack is the New Black.

It was another impressive debut for Paul Dempsey, who’s sitting at number five with his sophomore solo effort Everything is True. Meanwhile Lisa Mitchell has slipped down a couple of notches with her debut effort Wonder. It’s sitting at number eight.

Kate Miller-Heidke is leading the Aussie charge in the singles charts. Her latest track, “The Last Day on Earth”, is holding steady at number three. She’s just edged out Guy Sebastian, who jumps two places to sit at number four with “Like it Like That.”

Michael Jackson Dominates Australian Charts

Following global trends, Michael Jackson’s albums and singles have dominated this week’s ARIA charts. The late King of Pop has an amazing 15 albums in the top 100, and another 34 singles in the charts this week.

MJ is holding down the top three spots on the album charts with The Essential Michael Jackson, #1s, and Thriller. Thriller’s title track is also leading the singles charge, sitting pretty at number three ahead of “Black or White,” “Billie Jean,” and “Man in the Mirror.”

The Michael Jackson sold 62, 015 albums last week, which equates to 29.6% of all albums sold. Not a bad effort at all I’d say!

Hilltop Hoods Still Tops

Way to go Hilltop Hoods! The Aussie hip hop outfit has enjoyed their second week at the top of the ARIA Charts with State of the Art.

The big single “Chase That Feeling” is also doing well, jumping a massive eight places to sit at number eight in the singles charts.

The Hilltop Hoods aren’t the only locals tasting chart success. Eskimo Joe’s fourth album Inshalla is still going strong, sitting at number six in the charts. They’re ahead of The Temper Trap, who’ve jumped into number nine with their debut album Conditions.
